Spring I: 3/6/24-4/17/24 Inst. Liz Lewandowski
*No Class 3/20
Level: Intermediate (Prerequisite: You must have taken a beginning wheel or hand-building class)
Learn how to use color theory to make your pieces look their best. Explore traditional, (Sgraffito, Mishima, etc.) and non-traditional (graphite, colored pencil, paint) ways to decorate the surface of a clay/ceramic object. You will be asked to bring drawings to use as inspiration. Understand the difference between stains, underglaze, and oxides, how and when to use them. Experiment with making a mosaic by inserting broken work and glass into clay. Clay experience necessary. You may choose to create tiles to practice the new surface techniques or you may use the techniques on current projects you have in progress. This class’s primary objective is how to finish artwork and not in making specific projects, however there will be opportunity to make work in order to obtain the objective.

Liz Lewandowski
Liz has a BA from Concordia College, WI. She is an extremely talented hand-builder and sculptor. She has taught classes for CCC since 2014, many of her own unique design. Liz is also the head of glaze mixing and kiln operation. Thanks to her we have 21 hand-mixed glazes, 8 slips and 4 oxide washes. In addition she keeps 3 kilns firing up to 3 times per week, all while keeping a wicked sense of humor. “I’m an Illustrator by trade but have found a special place in my heart for ceramics. I enjoy making 3d pieces of art and then incorporating drawings and designs in the the surface. I specialize in dragons, monsters and all things nightmarish!” Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lsquaredstudio/?hl=en
